Bush is waiting 'til after the elections to intensify the war. In the meantime, the terrorists are killing Iraqi citizens.
THE MUDDLE IN IRAQ

The truth is that the terrorists are the lesser problem. The greater impediment to progress has been our presidential elections and the policy distortions they create.
The polarization, dishonesty and manipulation on both sides aids the terrorists. When John Kerry states categorically that he'll bring our troops home within four years, it promises the terrorists that they only have to hang on. When he declares our efforts a disaster, he encourages our enemies to believe they're winning. And when he promises a "more sensitive" war on terror, it's read as a pending declaration of surrender
Kerry blathers. Bush delays. Iraq burns.
Meanwhile, our intelligence community has once again shown its weakness by covering its backside, instead of finding terrorists. A National Intelligence Council report revealed this week paints a bleak picture of the future of Iraq. Why? Because the intel bureaucrats don't want to be blamed if things go wrong. There's nothing safer than assuming failure.

October is going to be a bloody month — it may appear to prove the pessimists right. But Iraq's future isn't tied to a 24/7 news cycle. The key event is going to be the election. Not our election, but the Iraqi vote scheduled for January.
Nobody else in the Middle East wants that election to take place. The U.N. is warning that security conditions may prevent voting — giving the terrorists hope. But the Iraqi interim government is staying the course.

Ready, Aim, Fire . . . Hit Foot
The October edition of Outdoor Life will feature interviews with both presidential candidates. When asked about their favorite guns, President Bush responds: "My favorite gun is a Weatherby Athena 20 gauge." Mr. Kerry says (reminding us yet again where he was 35 years ago): "My favorite gun is the M-16 that saved my life and that of my crew in Vietnam. I don't own one of those now, but one of my reminders of my service is a Communist Chinese assault rifle." So Mr. Kerry's favorite gun is an "assault" rifle designed for war. Funny talk coming from a guy who just went ballistic over the end of the "assault" weapons ban.
This all explains why Mr. Kerry is getting shot down in his gun efforts. This past weekend, while interviewing potential voters at a Pennsylvania gun show, I asked several if Mr. Kerry's attempts to look gun-friendly had made an impression. Those attendees who didn't immediately bust out laughing or roll their eyes noted that it was the past 20 years that would matter when they entered the voting booth, not the past 20 months.
So here is a little advice from gun-owning America to you, John. Stop, please. Before you really do shoot yourself in the foot.

Yes, Republicans have endured the occasional sporting shame. George W. Bush traded Sammy Sosa. Ronald Reagan called sports plays more than he played sports. And Vince Lombardi was a Democrat.
But America deserves a President who knows the difference between an airport and a football field, and who can spook a batter at least as well as he scares a dove.

A Little Background on Judge Harold "Police Are Corrupt" Baer Today he ordered that all President Bush's military records be released as if there is some cover up. If his name sounds familiar it should. He was singled out by Bob Dole in the 1996 campaign as being soft on crime for suppressing a drug bust because in the area in question because residents in the area view "police as corrupt, abusive, and violent" and Dole called for his impeachment. He subsequently reversed his decision in the face of pressure.

KITTY LITTER HIJACK
When I began Kitty Litter back in November, 2003, it was supposed to be just whatever was on my mind at the moment. A bit of politics, a bit of gossip, and always some humor. Y’know, litter.
And since my name is Kitty …
But, Kitty Litter is being hijacked. The first time was on the front page of my beloved NY Post, which jolted my heart better than any defribillator. Wow, did the NY Post discover my blog? Mmmmm, no. Instead, it was Lou Lumenick’s review of the Halle Berry movie “Catwoman.”
KITTY LITTER: Apurr-fectly ridiculous and boring catastrophe, “Catwoman” more than lives up to the lethal advance buzz and — even with Halle Berry cavorting like a third-rate dominatrix — is about as sexy as a hairball.
Swell. If that wasn’t bad enough, now I’m seeing my blog’s name besmirched in connection with You-know-who Kelley, that peroxide hack. You couldn’t squeeze the truth out of her with a juicer. A reader, Phillies Fan, sent me the following link, and once again I felt as though my heart had been jump-started with a Die Hard battery from Sears. (You’d think I’d learn.)

On the Today Show yesterday Matt Lauer, interviewing Kelley, asked her why she didn't tape record the conversation with Sharon Bush. Kelley replied that tape recorders don't work well in restaurants--there's too much noise. "It's a restaurant. I mean, it's really har--have you ever done that?"…
Recalling the meeting in her author's note on page xxv Kelley writes, "[Sharon Bush and I agreed to meet on April 1, 2003, at a quiet restaurant. When I arrived, the Chelsea Bistro on West Twenty-Third Street was empty." So, Kelley was unable to get the conversation on a tape recorder because they ate a "quiet" and "empty" restaurant where the noise was so loud that it precluded the use of one.
(Obviously Mizz Kelley has never read actual news accounts of mob snitches wearing wires in busy public places. That's how the feds got Gotti. )
I get no respect. It’s not even an original blog name. Google Kitty Litter and chances are my blog won’t show up for pages. Most of the others actually deal with kitty litter … there’s an interest in it? … while others deal with a recipe for kitty litter cake. Yuk. I wonder if all the other Kitty Litter bloggers have the same near death experience as I do every time I see those words in print. I had better get used to it before I use up all nine lives. Either that or re-name my blog.

Let's not forget this. If CBS IDs the source of the documents, that source is either a forger or linked to a forger, which is a felony. … You would have criminal charges for forgery, document fraud. Impersonating a federal officer, possibly.
8 Evidence that CBS News 60 Minutes II is guilty of malice and intent to defraud
If anyone was duped, it would appear to be the documents experts themselves and an unsuspecting TV audience. Obviously, CBS should have shared all of their documents with all of their experts. It would appear that the truth they were looking for is frustratedly hard to find and harder to accept—a truth which exists in the minds of the investigators but not in their fictitious documents. In the end CBS News chose to use for its broadcast, the one signature that looked most authentic when compared to other known signatures of the late Colonel Killian. CBS News cast aside the document Ms. Will told them was not authentic.

What did CBS miscalculate? Everything, including the impact of the blogosphere, and including the change that Florida 2000 brought about. Forgeries intended to influence the outcome of a presidential election, like the attempted suppression of the absentee ballots of the military in Florida by the Gore-Lieberman camp in December 2000, are outrages --outrages widely recognized and detested by Americans of routinely calm demeanor. These voters --casual watchers of politics, not ordinarily focused on the inside baseball stuff-- have had it with Terry McAuliffe, Michael Moore, Howard Dean and now Dan Rather. Maybe some of them weren't sold on Bush, but now they are. Disgust is a powerful thing, and CBS has disgusted the center. It is important that this network be humbled so that no network in the future is tempted to pull a similar stunt.

Rather and his supporters now believe the controversy surrounding the four discredited Texas National Guard memos has been engineered by the Bush campaign.
"All you have to see to understand this is the report that John Roberts did on Bush's appearance at the National Guard convention Tuesday," says a CBS News producer. "Rather's guys are now going after the president of the United States in a way probably no news organization has ever done before. This is now deeply personal to them."

Wishful thinking is what explains why and how CBS fell for the forgeries in the first place.

And it all might have worked fine had CBS not put the documents out in computer form for everybody to see.
Fifteen years ago — maybe even five years ago — the world would simply have accepted the legitimacy of the documents. After all, CBS said it had gone to an expert to have them authenticated.
Well, this isn't the old days. And for reasons largely consigned within the peculiar brain of its anchorman, Dan Rather, the CBS news division is refusing to face the reality that it has been caught out in the most significant forgery scandal to hit journalism since the Hitler diaries.
CBS News is part of a larger organization. That organization is run by Les Moonves. Moonves cancelled the airing of a docudrama about Ronald and Nancy Reagan because he considered it biased. Will he sit by, silent, as the venerable CBS News "brand" is destroyed from within?
8 THE LATEST FROM WITHIN CBS

This individual told the Kerry Spot late Monday night that some of CBS’ news talent who were campaigning for the anchor desk when Rather retires, are more than a little pleased with the recent turn of events. These individuals, who, admittedly, have a great personal stake in getting Rather out the door, are contending in internal discussions that the blame belongs with Rather, not with any lower-ranking producer.
This individual also suggests that Don Hewitt, creator of 60 Minutes and who initially opposed the idea of establishing ‘60 Minutes II,’ is as livid as one would imagine. The pressure within CBS is intense and building steadily, the source said.

And we encourage all Kerry Crushers to e-mail them at the address provided and report to them that a network news anchor most certainly tried to scam the country into thinking they had a "smoking gun" memo damaging to the President that is almost certainly a forgery. We really think they're going to regret having this request on their website.

This CBS New producer went on to explain that the questions 60 Minutes folk were asking were specific enough that people would have been able to fabricate the memorandums to meet the exact specifications the investigative journalists were looking for. "People were asking questions of sources like, 'Have you ever seen or heard of a memo that suspended Bush for failing to appear for a physical?' and 'Have you heard about or know of someone who has any documentation from back in the 1970s that shows there was pressure to get Bush into the National Guard?' It was like they were placing an order for a ready-made product. That is the biggest problem I have with this. It's all too neat and perfect for what we needed. Without these exact pieces of paper, we don't have a story. Dan [Rather] has as much as admitted that. Everyone knows it. We were at a standstill on this story until these memos showed up."

Morale is at “all-time low” within Kamp Kerry; some of their people are no longer showing up to work or volunteer; they’re desperately seeking an issue that will resonate with the voters; and they’re trying to keep the big guy focused.
While talking about the economy, health-care policy, Kerry went off speech and began stumbling immediately. Kerry said that he would always tell the public the truth, and if the audience didn't believe him, they could "[g]o to a web site. It can be johnkerry.com or go some other place. Go to truth.com, if there is one, and find out what's really happening," Kerry said.

When Gore delivered his latest-in-a-series slam at the Republicans last week, faulting Vice President Dick Cheney for "sleazy and despicable" criticism of the Democrats, a White House spokesman dismissively responded: "Consider the source."

A watershed media moment occurred Friday on Fox News Channel, when Jonathan Klein, a former executive vice president of CBS News who oversaw "60 Minutes," debated Stephen Hayes, a writer for The Weekly Standard, on the documents CBS used to raise questions about George W. Bush's Vietnam-era National Guard service.
Mr. Klein dismissed the bloggers who are raising questions about the authenticity of the memos: "You couldn't have a starker contrast between the multiple layers of check and balances [at '60 Minutes'] and a guy sitting in his living room in his pajamas writing."
He will regret that snide disparagement of the bloggers, many of whom are skilled lawyers or have backgrounds in military intelligence or typeface design. A growing number of design and document experts say they are certain or almost certain the memos on which CBS relied are forgeries.
Mr. Klein didn't directly address the mounting objections to CBS's story. He fell back on what high school debaters call the appeal to authority, implying that the reputation of "60 Minutes" should be enough to dissolve doubts without the network sharing its methods with other journalists and experts.

If it turns out that the Killian memos are indeed forgeries, the Internet will have played an invaluable role in exposing the fraud …

A defensive Dan Rather went on the air Friday to complain of what he called a "counterattack" from "partisan political operatives." In reality, traditional journalism now has a new set of watchdogs in the "blogosphere." In the words of blogger Mickey Kaus, they can trade information and publicize it "fast enough to have real-world consequences." Sure, blogs can be transmission belts for errors, vicious gossip and last-minute disinformation efforts. But they can also correct themselves almost instantaneously--in sharp contrast with CBS's stonewalling.
