Exhausted … For those interested, I was the Field Coordinator for a county in a Battleground State that did exceptionally well -- it was a "long hard slog," but it was a great ride, great fun, and well worth it now that the results are in and all but official. This has been extra sweet in light of the unbelievable opposition mounted by the opposing party -- everyone from Hollywood to the media to union thugs were in on an unprecedented campaign of intimidation, smears, and lies... and yet here we are. With four more years.

This has been one of the happiest days in my life. I'm on cloud 9 right now. New Mexico is a red State too!!! I'm shutting the doors on kerrywaffles this week.
Also, I have an appointment with an IRS investigator on Tuesday. They called me, after I contacted them, to check out those pesky Heinz Center emails. My Dad said I should be gracious and drop everything. Unfortunately for Teresa Heinz, I'm not a gracious person and I hope I can help nail her. Teresa losing tax exempt status on her charity and being fined out the whazoo would be icing on the cake for me. I'll keep ya'll updated.
Have no real idea what's next. Almost hit 80,000 hits in 8 months (1 1/2 of those were getting shutdown by the Heinz-Kerry goon squad), so I think I have a knack for this site building stuff. Think I have to find something that I can get fired up about to be successful in the next endeavour. I'll email ya when I whip up something. Sadly, my job is taking up most of my time. Living under a whole bunch of sales quotas has got me focused elsewhere for the time.
Keep in touch and it has been a real pleasure to get to know you Pat, Kitty and John. I'll never forget how you guys/gal stood by me when times got tough with the shutdowns/threats. One good thing came out of it though. New Mexico GOP took notice of my little site and hardships. Lot folks there said they would help me if I started a NM Conservative site. Be interesting to see what kind of scoops they could hand me. Bill Richardson is another Kerry in the waiting with Prez ambitions. He might be the focus of my next project.

George Bush owes it to the other America

Here in Scotland, where the mainstream view is anti-Bush, the instant reaction will be to dismiss this other America as redneck, racist, bigoted, gun-loving and ignorant. But hold a mirror to thyself: the part of America that doggedly voted Republican on Tuesday is its ethnic Scottish-Ulster heartland. These are the descendants of the lowland yeoman folk who colonised Virginia in the 17th century, then crossed the Appalachian Mountains to open up the frontier in the 18th, joined by the refugees from the Govan slums in the 19th.
They brought with them a Celtic tribalism, a small-farmer self-reliance and a rationalist Presbyterian morality based on the Good Book. They also brought their own home-spun music, with its sentimental narratives and view of this world as a trial to be endured. From the bluegrass fiddle music of the Appalachian crofts to the Burns-like honky-tonk ballads of the itinerant oil workers in the Texas dustbowl, country music has evolved to dominate contemporary musical tastes. But beyond the saccharin-sweet commercialism of country rock, it is music that still defines the mental and moral landscape of a community that was prepared to defy the world last Tuesday. Never in a million years were America’s Scots-Irish going to vote for John Kerry, whatever the eastern pollsters thought.

Contrary to European myth, it is not an especially imperialist nationalism, but when provoked it sees things with a terrible, biblical simplicity.
The Scots settlers who first colonised America, and then illegally slipped across the Appalachians to live among the Indian tribes, were not out to found a new empire. Having been chased out of Scotland and Ulster for economic and religious reasons, then having clashed with the conservative English merchant elites who ran the eastern colonies, the Scots just wanted to be left to their own devices. To this day, their predilection for owning guns is less to do with the desire to blast away at dumb animals, as pique at the idea that someone should tell them what to do. That’s why it is not a good idea to try to frighten them by crashing airliners into tall buildings: it just makes them mad.

Here is the saving grace of the Scots-Irish version of American nationalism: it would really rather finish the job quickly in Iraq, and go home and listen to Roy Acuff or Hank Williams. It does not like being drawn into the role of imperialist policeman. But anti-Americans should beware of getting what they wish for - living without the Americans may prove worse than living with them.
As a culture based on self-reliance and Mosaic rules of social conduct, Scots-Irish American nationalism cannot comprehend societies based on clientelism and endemic personal corruption.
That’s why it does not like the way the United Nations has developed into a talking shop, and why it gets exasperated by the Middle East. The Scots-Irish have given George Bush a mandate: but it says: "Finish the job quickly, or we will let the world stew in its own juice."
The world has woken up to four more years of George Bush with something of a headache. Personally, I’m glad the incipient trade war that the Democrats were planning against Europe - to make good their promise of protecting jobs in Ohio - has receded into the distance.
I also think that by legitimising George Bush with a serious popular majority, the Scots-Irish have cut the diplomatic feet from under those who dismiss him as a usurper; as well as seeing off tiresome posers, such as the documentary-maker Michael Moore, who trivialise and personalise debate.

FOR the first time in years, Michael Moore was speechless.
The film-maker and author was keeping quiet yesterday as he digested the inconceivable: his books, films and campaigns had not even dented Mr Bush’s political lead.
His book, Stupid White Men, and film Fahrenheit 9/11 have sold well in the United States as they have across the world - radicalising a young audience which had never before voted.
But yesterday the self-styled "capped crusader" was searching in vain for any evidence that the shadow he has cast over American politics for the last three years had touched the polling station.
He had deployed 1,300 cameras to polling stations in Florida and Ohio, determined to catch on film the dirty tricks which he argues stopped thousands of black voters from casting their ballot four years ago.
"I’m putting those who intend to suppress the vote on notice: voter intimidation and suppression will not be tolerated," Mr Moore said in a statement.
But he gave up on Florida by 3pm on polling day, and headed to Ohio instead.
By yesterday lunchtime, it became clear that George Bush, his nemesis, had won a fair and unanswerable victory.

At one point during the campaign, Mr Moore dropped to his knees on national television and pleaded with Ralph Nader, the third presidential candidate, who was attacking the Democrats from the left, not to stand.
The latest figures last night suggested Mr Bush would have won a convincing victory even if all Mr Nader’s votes had been cast for Mr Kerry.

Mr Moore has publicly called for Hillary Clinton to enter the 2008 presidential race, and is now expected to turn his attentions to supporting her.

Chirac KO's Bush offer
GEORGE Bush … offered an olive branch to hostile European leaders — but was snubbed by the French President.
Referring to divisions over the Iraq war, the re-elected US leader said: “Whatever our past disagreements, we share a common enemy. I will continue to reach out to our partners in the EU.”

But French President Jacques Chirac — dubbed Le Worm — was doing his best to scupper bridge-building.
He will snub a meeting with Iraqi PM Iyad Allawi in Brussels today. It is a sleight aimed at Mr Bush and Tony Blair, who back Mr Allawi.
Chirac — who tried to stop the war to topple Saddam Hussein — will leave Brussels before the new Iraqi leader arrives.
However Chirac DID find time to visit Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat in hospital.
INTROSPECTION IN LA LA LAND?
Y’gotta read the entire article for some funny observations. It’s comforting to think of Hollywood’s collective knickers in knots. For the record, I haven’t missed a single episode of “The Sopranos,” I love “South Park,” I’d never watch “The Grudge” because I don’t like horror flicks as a rule (besides it looks stupid), and “Rescue Me” can’t return soon enough.

What does the election result, felt so bitterly in Hollywood and New York, say about the divide between those who create popular culture and many of those who consume it?
"The majority of the American voting public is not comfortable with what's in the movies and on TV - it's what I have to assume," said Peter Benedek, a partner at the talent agency. "Hollywood is obsessed with 18- to 34-year-olds, and those people didn't come out and vote. My guess is most people who watch 'The Sopranos' voted for Kerry. Most people who saw 'The Grudge' didn't vote."

JOHN KERRY constantly squabbled with his difficult and hypochondriac wife, ran a campaign team riven by internal feuding, and repeatedly begged the Republican senator John McCain to become his running-mate, according to a riveting inside account of his doomed presidential bid.
The Massachusetts senator was so obsessed with getting advice from a multitude of rival advisers that one aide confiscated his mobile telephone. His wife, Teresa Heinz Kerry, became such a moody distraction that in the closing weeks of the campaign another aide instructed her to stop whispering advice in his ear and back off.

One of the untold stories of the presidential campaign was the erratic behaviour of the candidate’s wife, the Heinz heiress Mr Kerry married in 1995, according to Newsweek. She drove her Secret Service detail mad with her chronic lateness, constantly demanded attention, including her husband’s (who seemed to tread on eggshells when around her). She even sent him off on errands, such as fetching bottles of water. She clashed with Mary Beth Cahill, Mr Kerry ’s campaign manager, and Mr Kerry was caught in the middle.

During the early summer, Mr Kerry implored Mr McCain, the maverick Republican who ran against Mr Bush in the 2000 Republican primaries, to become his running-mate, meeting him seven times. He even offered to expand the vice-presidency to include running the Pentagon. “I can’t say this is an offer because I’ve got to be able to deny it,” Mr Kerry told Mr McCain. “But you’ve got to do this.”
Mr McCain told him he was out of his mind, and went on to embrace Mr Bush. “Goddammit,” a furious Mr Kerry said to an aide. “Don’t you know what I offered him? Why the f*** didn’t he take it?” At the time, Mr Kerry also thought that John Edwards, his eventual choice, was overly ambitious. “What makes this guy think he can be president?” he asked staff in February.

Enter James Carville, Bill Clinton’s former strategist. So appalled was he by the chaos inside the campaign, and so desperate to see Mr Bush defeated, that in early September he decided that Miss Cahill had to be ousted, and Joe Lockhart, Mr Clinton’s former spokesman, inserted as manager. When he called a meeting with the pair, he was so worked up, he began to cry, screaming to Miss Cahill: “You’ve got to let him (Mr Lockhart) do it!” Mr Lockhart duly took over, and Mr Clinton’s former campaign team virtually moved in.

Progressives have only one course of action now: React quickly to every outrage—red state types love to cheat and intimidate, so we have to assume the worst and call them on it every time. We have to give them more to think about than they can handle—to always appeal to reason and common sense, and the law, even when they can't understand it and don't respond. They cannot be allowed to keep any secrets. Tens of millions of people didn't vote—they are watching, too, and have to be shown that we are ready and willing to fight, and that the battle is worth fighting. And in addition, we have to remember that threats to democracy from the right always collapse. Whatever their short-term appeal, they are borne of hubris and hatred, and will destroy their purveyors in the end.

HILLARY Clinton’s chances of becoming the first woman president of the United States were torpedoed yesterday.
She might have been born in Chicago but, as a New York senator and Yale-educated lawyer, she counts as a member of the east-coast liberal elite.
An electorate that rejected a Vietnam War hero is unlikely to embrace a self-declared feminist who carries her husband’s baggage as well as her own.
John Kerry’s defeat will be taken as confirmation of what many Democrats feared - that an east-coast liberal cannot take the White House.

Democrats will have to accept reality. And the reality is this: Democrats voted for Bush in large numbers because they like him. They admire him. They want him to be president. They don’t think he’s an idiot, a fascist, a warmonger, a religious fanatic, a kook, a liar, a cheat, a monster, a bad guy. They think he’s done a good job. The Democratic Party has spent four years demonizing George W. Bush, and in part because of their stupid, useless, senseless negativism, Terry McAuliffe & Co. lost 4 million voters.
JOHN KERRY'S BIGGEST GUNS
The campaign coverage by what Thomas himself labelled "the establishment media" bore out his prediction. The non-partisan and widely respected Center for Media and Public Affairs' analysis of this year's coverage concluded that Kerry got "the most favorable network-news coverage of any presidential candidate in the past quarter-century."
During October alone, Kerry coverage on the network news shows — Rather, Tom Brokaw and Peter Jennings — ran 77 percent positive. Bush's coverage, meanwhile, ran just 34 percent positive. Throughout the entire campaign, a full 64 percent — two out of three — of network stories on the president were negative

The Media Research Center has compiled lists of the worst campaign-season distortions by the news media in general and by The New York Times in particular.
Rather's Memogate fiasco heads the list, of course — and it will be interesting to see what, if any, repercussions fall on those who perpetrated that fiasco. Yet that was just one story in an endless yearlong media assault meant to prove that Bush had been AWOL from the National Guard — a charge that was never proven. (During just two weeks in February, CBS, NBC and ABC aired no less that 63 such stories on their morning and evening news shows.)
In sharp contrast, the media long ignored the disturbing questions raised about Kerry's Vietnam record by the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth. They finally addressed the issue only months later, when it was clear that the charges were causing Kerry political damage — and then only to declare them "demonstrably false."

A RUDE AWAKENING

The European elites had spent much of Tuesday evening dreaming about how a President Kerry would ratify the Kyoto accords, sign on to the International Criminal Court, cut and run in Iraq, send flowers to Yasser Arafat and, perhaps, open a dialogue with Osama bin Laden. When it became clear that the American voters wanted none of that, the chattering classes in Europe were left speechless. One Paris TV anchor was literally struck dumb mometarily when, after hours of crowing over Kerry's victory and the American people's supposed liberation from Bushist tyranny, he had to admit that things had gone differently.
The shock felt in Europe was even greater because of the size of Bush's victory. The president won more votes than any candidate in the entire history of America. Dubya also became the first to win the presidency with a majority of the popular vote, since his father in 1988.
People like French President Jacques Chirac, whose party has won just 16 per cent of the votes in a series of recent elections, or German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder, whose party has lost every election in the past two years, would look with envy at the clean sweep made by Bush and his Republican Party on Tuesday.
Until Tuesday, the standard excuse by many Europeans who opposed key aspects of Bush's policies was that they were only anti-Bush, not anti-American. They tried to justify that bit of sophistry with Michael Moore-esque lies about how Bush, having "stolen" the 2000 election, did not really represent the American people.
With Dubya's victory, it will no longer be possible for the Hate-America international to pose as merely anti-Bush. Their claim that Bush and his gang of Likudniks had somehow hijacked the United States has been swept away by American voters.
So, what will "old Europe" do?

DID YOU VOTE YET?
That’s Zappa; he’s filming his 2-year-old son playing with his new birthday presents. Zappa is an anarchist and never lets a meeting go by without mentioning politics, especially anti-Bush sentiments. Yesterday, however, Zappa didn’t mention politics once. I don’t know what to make of it, unless he thinks Bush will definitely win re-election.
Seeing that “1” up there on that countdown-to-the-election calendar is a little un-nerving. It seems as though we’ve all worked so hard to get to these last 2 days, regardless of your candidate, and yet here we are.
If Bush is re-elected, both KerryHaters and CrushKerry will “die,” that is after the vote is finalized. (I’m certainly not looking forward to the possibility of another protracted post-election mess.) Actually, CrushKerry will morph into AnkleBitingPundits. I can’t wait to see that logo! I know Pat will continue with his original blog, Brainster. Seeing KerryHaters “die” will be a bittersweet moment for me. So enjoy those two while they last!
I’ll be posting a bit over at KerryHaters, but for these next two days here at Litter, I’d like to throw the floor open to all of you. No rules other than keep it clean. El Dia de los Muertos
Indians in Mexico Mark Day of the Dead
POMUCH, Mexico Oct 30, 2004 — Antonio Haas pulls a wooden box from a small cement cubicle, brushes a year of dust from the top and pushes back the lid to reveal a pile of coffee-colored bones and a small skull covered with patches of hair. It's what remains of his father who died five years ago, and with the Day of the Dead approaching, it's time for their annual cleaning.
It may strike outsiders as macabre, but Haas says it's the most natural thing in the world. "There is nothing to fear from the dead," he says, tenderly rubbing the skull. "It's the living we should fear."
For this 58-year-old farmer and dozens of other descendants of Mayan Indians in this small village on the Yucatan Peninsula, the last days of October are devoted to cleaning the bones: dusting, polishing, scrubbing and rearranging the skeletal remains of family members in time for the Day of the Dead, when Mexicans welcome the souls of the dearly departed back to Earth.
The ceremonies on Halloween are taken seriously. Mexicans honor the dead on Nov. 1, when the souls of dead children are believed to arrive, and on Nov. 2, when adults are believed to return.
They celebrate with meals, songs and prayers, both at home and in cemeteries. Tombstones are illuminated by candles, laden with orange marigolds and piled high with the favorite foods of the deceased, including tamales, small skulls made of sugar, and "bread of the dead" round, sugar-sprinkled loaves topped with strips of crust symbolizing bones and a knob representing the skull.

NewsMax.com has broken the media’s censorship of the controversial documentary “Stolen Honor: Wounds That Never Heal” and has begun airing the film on national television. Beginning Saturday morning, NewsMax began airing the documentary on national networks and in local networks across the nation. The documentary will air 10 times on PAX alone during this weekend, including showings Sunday at 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. EST/PST. In addition to national networks like PAX, NewsMax will be airing ‘Stolen Honor’ this weekend on numerous local stations across the nation, including ABC, CBS and NBC affiliates.
