NO MORE TALENT CONTESTS?
Y'mean, no more flaming batons? No more water glass concerts? No more balloon sculptures? Just skimpy thongs and stiletto heels? Why would Trump want to do that?
SMALLER SUITS
DONALD Trump is negotiating to buy the Miss America pageant now that he's crushed the venerable beauty contest with his rival Miss USA spectacle. Trump has steered the ratings of Miss USA up to 16 million viewers, while Miss America has shrunk to 9.8 million. None of the networks has made a deal to televise Miss America next fall, and there is speculation the pageant will end up as a reality show on cable. But not if Trump buys it. Unburdened by any feminist folderol, he'll eliminate the talent portion and focus solely on contestants' looks. "Nobody wants to see some girl tap-dance or play the violin," said one insider. "Trump will increase the height of their heels and decrease the size of their swimsuits."
R U CLEVER?
RATHER CLEVER
NATIONAL Enquirer gossip guru Mike Walker won't have Dan Rather to kick around anymore — much. The deposed anchorman will still do reporting for CBS. But just so we don't go through Rather withdrawal, Walker has started a contest on the RatherDumb.com Web site promoting his new book, "Rather Dumb: A Top Tabloid Reporter Tells CBS How to Do News." Contestants are composing original Dan-isms along the lines of such classics as: "If a frog had side pockets, he'd carry a handgun." Or, "He's the kind of a guy who would fight a rattlesnake — and give the snake a two-bite head start." Ten winners will get $100 each.
Where would we be without Lucianne? The paradox of [L.com] is that the bigger we get, the more news we carry and the more readers who register, the more bandwidth we consume. You can help in several ways: 1) Make a contribution. 2) Click on her ads. 3) Check out the L.com merchandise, like the travel mug. |

THE SOURPUSS AND THE LEMONADE GAL
Andrea Peyser and Martha Stewart |
I'm not a Martha Stewart wannabe, but I do like some of her products and some of her ideas. I've heard/read the stories about her marriage. I recall the tabloids full of her beefs with her neighbors. And I had a problem with her actions concerning the stock transactions which launched the investigation, especially since she was a broker at one time herself. But I do have a certain admiration for her. She faced her destiny, did her time and seems to have made the most of it. She had lemons and made lemonade. Martha Stewart is not an evil person stalking our lives and raising our taxes; she has no control over my life. Some of the reporting of late, including the usual Martha jokes and cartoons, is to be expected. It's part of her dues she must pay. But this column by Andrea Peyser is truly beyond the pale. Even DogMan commented on its vile nature. Her column says more about Andrea than it does about Martha. I can only conclude that Andrea is not a happy person and that she envies Martha Stewart.
JAIL NOT ENOUGH OF A GOOD THING GIVE HER MORE
By ANDREA PEYSER
March 8, 2005 -- I'M STARTING a cultural movement send Martha Stewart back to prison.
Our tender American stomachs are just not safe from her kind.
Looking as if she'd just emerged from a luxury spa, and sounding like she'd been released from an insane asylum, Martha spun back into the limelight yesterday and proceeded to demonstrate beyond doubt that she is woefully beyond rehabilitation.
Five months after Martha was thrown into the joint, a spoiled, unrepentant convicted criminal, she emerged a changed woman. Now she's a spoiled, unrepentant ex-con.
And in an attempt to sound enlightened, she spouted philosophical inanities about the value of self-reflection, not to mention the healing qualities of "homekeeping." Ick.
But instead, she came off as a con woman with a demented speechwriter.
Before TV cameras and the dwindling staff of the company she tried, and failed, to murder with her own greed and obstinacy, Martha proceeded yesterday to continue her one-woman spree of crimes against decency, sanity and good taste.
And she's still under house arrest.
What happens when she's free to walk the streets?
...
I might have asked Martha what she was thinking. How she can perform this act with a straight face. But, Martha lovers, you will be positively giddy to know that I was banned from the premises.
"You're not on the list," peeped a door slave when I dared attempt enter.

LET’S GO TO THE TAPE!
I'm never disappointed when I stop at Jackson's Junction. Trey posts great video clips. Today he's posted 3, all of which deal with blogging:
Jeff Jarvis Web Roundup
Inside Politics Powerline and
Kurtz Reviews how law could affect blogs.
There's also an interesting one with Bill Clinton and Bush 41.
Trey keeps the video clips short and relevant. Jackson's Junction should be a daily stop, like Drudge and Lucianne. It's that good.
MY THOUGHTS ON GAVROCHEGIRL
Rodger’s daughter has a blog of her own, called My Thoughts On..Things, which I think freaks him out. She’s not quite a teen, yet she expresses herself very well without resorting to the clichéd shorthand of her peers, a reason to have much hope for her generation. She calls herself Gavrochegirl. For those of you who have neither seen Les Misérables, nor read Victor Hugo’s novel, Gavroche was one of the characters, specifically the little street gamin who gathered ammo and sang while the enemy soldiers fired upon him. (Thank God for google:)
Gavrochegirl loves to write … passed on by her writer dad, no doubt … and she loves acting, and she’s trying to decide between the two:
Acting or Writing?
I'm leaning towards acting. It's not like I will decide on what everyone else says, but what do you readers think I should do? Leave a comment and say what I should do! (This decision of comments is not final)
Check out Gavrochegirl. I’ve left a couple of comments. Click on my name and you’ll see my wedding photo (mega thanks to LoanCat for scanning it for me).
Welcome to the blogosphere, Gavrochegirl!
WE DON'T NEED NO STINKIN' DECORUM!
Wellesley Chapel
My mother went to Wellesley, so this Page Six tidbit caught my eye. Of course, she went a few decades before Her Royal C enrolled, and, I dare say, things had changed a bit in the interim. But what a sad come-down from the once-august institution, where only the best were admitted. Oh, Lord, do I sound like my mother or what!
'DYKE' DRUNKS
WELLESLEY College hasn't decided whether or not to cancel next year's "Dyke Ball," even after 11 co-eds who got drunk before the cross-dress fest sponsored by a lesbian, transgendered and bisexual group ended up in the emergency room the other night. The ball, a popular tradition at the women's college in which female partygoers wear Saran Wrap and corsets and men are clad as drag queens or in skimpy thongs, also turned into a boozy bacchanal last year, when a dozen students were hospitalized. Wellesley spokeswoman Mary Ann Hill told us, "We obviously take the incident very seriously, but we haven't made any decision about next year at this point." She added, "The party itself was an alcohol-free event. It was a very in-control party." College officials tried to encourage sobriety by sending pizzas and hot chocolate to dorms and pushing an alcohol awareness campaign that began after last year's party.

HER ROYAL C
HILLARY'S PLAYBOOK
By Dick Morris
Hillary's outspokenness on international issues is more than just the routine of a largely domestically-oriented senator preparing to run for president, burnishing her resume on overseas issues. It is the studied implementation of a playbook that dates back to the '90s when she and I wrote it together.
...
[T]he Hillary playbook became: Use the stereotype.
Sometimes, she tried to exploit the positive aspects of the stereotype as when she focused first on health care and then on education and children's issues. Now she seeks to overcome the negative part of the stereotype by posing as a hawk on foreign policy.
...
One problem is that Hillary is not likely sincere in her hawkish views.
...
The other problem is that Hillary really doesn't know much about foreign policy.
A WomanTrend poll last month found 25 percent of women said they'd definitely vote for her. But 29 percent wouldn't no matter whom her opponent turns out to be. "A lot of these blue-collar women don't respect her for staying with her husband," a WomanTrend pollster said. "If you can't stand up to a cheating husband who embarrassed you in front of the whole world, how are you going to stand up to Osama Bin Laden?"

ANYBODY SEE FAT ACTRESS LAST NIGHT?
I did and I loved it! When she walked past the offices and desks to see the producer about a show and everyone kept whispering how fat she was? OMG! LOVED IT!
UPDATES:
Those nags at NOW naturally did NOT like it:
'Fat Actress' Hitting Sore Spot
"A show that seems to be set up to make fun of fat people or to describe how miserable their lives are, is not sending a good message, and it's not the right message," laments National Organization for Women president Kim Gandy.
And BlogCritics looked beyond the fat actress:
Kirstie Alley's character is allegory for the big, bloated media companies -- ankles buckling under the weight of their inflated sense of self-importance, stumbling through the wilderness, blissfully ignorant of their own obsolescence. And her personal assistants represent us, the hapless consumers, having no other option but to be at big, fat media's beck and call.
AH, THE MEMORIES!
Rep. Amo Houghton (RINO-NY), our local congressman, has one local character, Fred Schwartz, who will be truly disappointed that Amo is retiring. Fred is the kind of guy who made a pizza in a high school class and added pot as a topping. He's been a long time fan of Amo's. He even painted AMO FOR CONGRESS on his car's bumper along with the Confederate Flag. PLUS, he painted his daughters' names on his car, too. He named them both Savannah Rose. The article below is several years old. Thanks to for LoanCat scanning it for me. |

WHADDA GAL!
She was every man’s dream—and one man’s nightmare.
Are you a softie for hard-boiled crime?
Forty years ago, Lawrence Block wrote what some have called the best novel about con artists ever written: THE GIRL WITH THE LONG GREEN HEART. This November we'll be bringing this classic crime story back into print. And we couldn't be more excited about it -- not only are we bringing you an amazing book by the author Stephen King called "[the] one writer of mystery and detective fiction who comes close to replacing the irreplaceable John D. MacDonald," but it's going to be published with a brand-new cover painting by the legendary pulp artist Robert McGinnis.

PLAYGIRL EDITOR-IN-CHIEF OUTS HERSELF -- AS REPUBLICAN
Mon Mar 07 2005 19:42:14 ET
When it comes to sex and politics, Democrats are the more liberal, right? Not so fast. Playgirl editor-in-chief Michele Zipp explores “down and dirty” politics and examines sexuality on both sides of the aisle. In the process she comes to a realization about herself and reveals for the first time she’s now a Republican.
“Siding with the GOP when you live in the bluest state around is almost like wearing a Boston Red Sox jersey at a New York Yankees’ home game,” says Zipp in the April issue of PLAYGIRL. ”I cannot tell you how many times a person assumed I voted for John Kerry in 2004. Most of the time, I don’t have the heart to tell them, or the energy to discuss my reasons for going red this election year. But this is Playgirl magazine so it’s about time I was the one who bared what’s underneath.”
How could a member of the media who produces adult entertainment for women possibly side with conservatives from the red states? Zipp spells it out. “Those on the right are presumed to be all about power and greed – two really sexy traits in the bedroom. They want it, they want it now, and they’ll do anything to get it. And I’m not talking about some pansy-assed victory, I’m talking about full on jackpot, satisfaction for all.”
“The Democrats of the Sixties were all about making love and not war while a war-loving Republican is a man who would fight, bleed, sacrifice, and die for his country. Could you imagine what that very same man would do for his wife in the bedroom?” asks Zipp.

ARCHIVES CAN BE FUN
Especially Lucianne's archives. For example, two years ago her Short Cuts included Hans Blix (forgotten already?), 60 Minutes, presidential candidate Sen. John Edwards, and the dissing of Helen Thomas. It was just a matter of days later that the war began.
JUST FOR LAFFS
Jay Leno asked Michael Jackson's judge to exempt his monologue from a witness gag order. It's only fair. Comedians cannot be deprived of Michael Jackson jokes now that President Bush looks like he was right about democracy in the Middle East.

BOOKMARK THIS SITE
Ive discovered a fabulous blog called Jackson's Junction: Video Blogging - we provide (video), you decide). Check out: 1) Classic Coulter video 2) Ted Rall vs. God: Tonight, on Scarborough Country, Bill Maher (replayed clips), and Ted Rall go head to head with.... God? Yep! Thank goodness Michael Medved was there to bring some sanity to this discussion. 3) Arab Blogs: Laying the seeds of Freedom? I caught this clip of the Arab Media on C-Spandiscussing the role of Arab blogs (Big Pharoah & Healing Iraq) getting voices to speak out against their governments and let their opinions be known on several issues. Like taking newspapers to task. You will also notice they do follow the American blogs (mentioning Eason Jordan & Dan rather). This may be the start of a very important revolution in the Arab world. Can blogs help lead to freedom? |

EVEN REPUBS ARE LIBERAL IN NY
Rep. King (R-NY) | Sen. Clinton (D-NY) | Rep. Houghton (R-NY) |
I live in Corning so I’m very familiar with Amo. Amo Houghton is a classic RINO (Republican In Name Only). The Houghton family, along with Corning Inc., has had ties with the Clintons since 1992. Amo “Can’t We All Just Get Along” Houghton was one of only four Repubs who voted against Slick’s impeachment. He was already eyeing his legacy back then; he wanted to be known as the gentleman representative from Upstate NY, the one who tried to instill civility on The Hill. Leftist journalists were singing his praises.
USA Today: Amo Houghton is known as a voice of civility and moderation in the rough and-tumble House. … When the Republican Party took over control of Congress in 1994, Houghton found himself something of an odd man out. Houghton shared little in common with House Speaker Newt Gingrich, R-Ga., and his followers who ran the GOP and the House of Representatives. The Buffalo News dubbed Houghton "Our Man Against the Newtoids" and The Washington Post profiled his "low-key, uphill civility crusade."Hillary has been a frequent visitor to Corning, before and after her election to the Senate. I really don’t know if the area is warming to her or not, but I do know that this once relatively conservative part of NY State has become far more liberal. And I do know that even though people here respect Amo and like him, most of us were very relieved when he decided to retire.
As Clinton Wins G.O.P. Friends, Her Rivals' Task Toughens
The intimate gathering at a private home in Corning, N.Y., was pretty typical for an upstate fund-raiser featuring Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton: dozens of donors clustered in the terrace, listening to her speak, as they sipped wine and nibbled on hors d'oeuvres.
But one thing made the event unusual: The host was a prominent Republican businessman whose brother Amo Houghton was the popular nine-term Republican congressman from the area who, it turns out, gives Mrs. Clinton, a Democrat, an "A-plus" for the job she is doing.
His brother James, chairman of Corning Inc., agreed. "When I introduced Hillary, I told the crowd that the last time a Houghton had a fund-raiser for a Democrat was about 1812," he said.
...
Rep. Peter King (R-NY): “I think that too many Republicans who criticize Hillary Clinton sound like Michael Moore criticizing George Bush."
Out the the four Republicans who voted against impeaching Bill Clinton, two were from NY: one was Amo Houghton and the other was Pete King. Even so, he does have a point. Read King's profile here.
