We're Looking at You, Harry Reid
I have right here in my formerly nicotine-stained fingers an LA Times story that was ignored when it came out. When you print this baby out it's nine pages in your printer. It is from June 23rd, 2003. The Senator's Sons, Part 2:"In Nevada, Reid Is the Name to Know. Members of one lawmaker's family represent nearly every major industry in their home state. And their clients rely on his goodwill."

Dozens of lawmakers hired their spouses and children to work for their campaigns and political organizations, paying them with the political contributions they've collected from donors and special interests, an Associated Press review of records shows. Various file photos of members of Congress, top row, from left are, Rep. Chris Cannon, R-Utah; Sen. Joseph Lieberman, D-Conn.; Rep. Bart Stupak, D-Mich.; and House Majority Leader Tom DeLay of Texas. DeLay says foes seek to shut ethics panel
House Majority Leader Tom DeLay accused Democrats of shutting down the chamber's ethics committee to prevent him from being exonerated of the ethics accusations against him. "The only way I can be cleared is through the ethics committee, so they don't want one," Mr. DeLay said yesterday in an interview with editors and reporters of The Washington Times in his office at the Capitol. He also offered a second reason why Democrats want the ethics committee to be hobbled.
"One of their best friends, [Rep.] Jim McDermott, is being investigated, and they don't want him to be kicked out of Congress," Mr. DeLay said. "I mean, this guy has been found guilty guilty by a court of law and they don't want an ethics committee."
Sanders paid wife, stepdaughter for campaign efforts.

U CALLING ALL FICTION WRITERS!
If you have published fiction, or if you have tried to publish your fiction only to have it rejected, I have a favor to ask. I know an English teacher, who is teaching a writing workshop, who needs some "been there, done that" experiences for her class. A couple of paragraphs of your experience and any advice you care to share would be appreciated. You can e-mail them to me at imkittymyers@yahoo.com

WILL OPIE TURN IT INTO A MOVIE?
Cheryl Howard Crew (above, with husbandRon Howard) took a risky Asian trek to research her novel (above).
Filmmaker's wife goes novel route
Crew, 51, has written a novel, "In the Face of Jinn," an adventure yarn and political thriller about a stubborn American woman who braves gun battles, terrorists, rape, disease and romance to find her sister, lost and presumed dead somewhere near the India-Afghanistan border, as the Taliban are on the rise.
She spent three months traveling - sometimes illegally, always under great danger - through some of Asia's roughest territories to get her novel right.
...
Crew was smuggled into Pakistan's Northwest Frontier, a tribal area off-limits to Americans, thanks to Robert De Niro. Like Crew, the actor had become fascinated with the region and wanted to get in, but was sidetracked.
"He put me in touch with a former CIA operative," Crew says, who introduced her to the various shady characters with whom she made her blood-curdling forays.
She wore a burkha, and acted in every way like a traditional Muslim woman.
"The burkha both imprisons and protects," she says. The result "of seeing the oppression of many women" was "a terrible depression when I got back."

Does this mean we taxpayers will have to pay for her nipple tweaker?
Jennifer Lopez is political: I am encouraged by the fact that her keen political instincts have told her its a good idea to become aligned with Hanoi Jane, a woman mostly famous for her political activity during the Vietnam War. She was the one cheering for the Vietnamese. While they tried to kill my dad.
IN SEARCH OF "SIN"
Sin City ending/plot summary needed!
It's been out a few days, and yet the events of Sin City are still a mystery to many - click "contribute" on the left to get some Sin City details online...
Is it true that the movie involves cannibalism?
PAMELA ANDERSON IS "DEEP"
So, like I was reading Roger Simon's blog today ... cuz, y'know, like, Lucianne linked it? ... and I noticed a picture/link of Pamela Anderson's blog in the side bar! So I, like, y'know, clicked it? And, like, WOW! Did you know that one of Pammy's fave reads is The Sun Also Rises? No way? WAAAAY! That's, like, Hemmingway and he's, like, major. I know cuz I checked it out! She also likes Tupac, so she's, like, really cool.
JUST AN ASIDE: I usually use Ask Jeeves image search engine for pictures to post with my pieces. So, I type in "Pamela Anderson" and this is the message I received :) I used Google image search, instead, which apparently has no such qualms with Anderson. You'll find the raunchiest pictures front and center with a Google search.

RUN, RUDY, RUN POLL
The Marist College survey found 51 percent of New York voters including 40 percent of Democrats saying Republican Giuliani should run for president in 2008.
But only 44 percent of voters and just 24 percent of Republicans want the former first lady to make the race while 51 percent said she should stay out.
...
Meanwhile, only 19 percent of New York voters said they want Gov. Pataki whose aides say he is also eyeing a run for president to seek the nation's highest office.
BORDERLINE CONTEMPT
To buy this shirt.
Polipundit has discovered:
Helping Illegals
Just another outrageous example of the Mexican government helping illegal immigrants violate American borders:
"[The Minutemen are] over there, observing you," he said, pointing to the sparks of sunlight that flashed off the cars and trucks of the volunteer civilian group that is here to spotlight what members call Washingtons failure to control the border. The Minutemen waited in lawn chairs, binoculars scanning southward, cell phones ready to summon the Border Patrol.
"We recommend that you dont try to cross here," Salazar said. "The decision is yours, but it would be better to try somewhere else."

THIS ONE'S FOR YOU, RIK
UPDATE (sorta): Poor Rik. He must think I'm a witch after I "scolded" him on his blog and then when I let loose on him in the comments on this post. I'm terribly sorry, Rik, I honestly wasn't referring to you per se. But this does bring up a pet peeve of mine concerning spineless Repubs. We eat our own, folks, better than any Dem can. All the Dems have to do is to point a finger at one of ours and a select few in our party take it from there.
Q: Why Delay?
A: Because he's effective.
Q: Why a charge involving ethics?
A: Because (and I do mean this) most Dems don't allow ethics to get in the way of their goals.
If Repubs are to be leaders, they had better learn how to lead. These knee-jerk reactions to the Dems' finger-pointing have got to stop.
The Truth About DeLay
By Ben Stein
Herewith a few truths about Tom DeLay, the embattled GOP Majority Leader in The House of Representatives.
1.) Tom DeLay is morally probably the highest level public servant I have ever met. With virtually no political gain to be had from so doing, he has been the most enthusiastic supporter of Israel in the U.S. Congress. He has stood with Israel against terrorism and international anti-Semitism without reservation or fear. This is a man with more moral decency in his little finger than his detractors have in their whole bodies.
…
If this kind of deviltry works, we can expect local Democrat district attorneys to routinely indict any Republican who is successfully turning out the electorate for the Republican Party. No elected official, no bureaucrat, is more unaccountable than an out of control, hatchet job prosecutor, and this is just what we are seeing at work against Tom DeLay.
…
6.) He has been there for us, and we need to be there for him.
Rik is foot loose for a while :)
UPDATE FROM THE HALF-VAST LEFT-WING
It appears as though all the scrutiny forced the guy, who was selling the "DeLay suicide t-shirt," to pull that one and re-design another with this new message:
Dear Tom DeLay,
Please go away. Far, far away.
Sincerely,
Everyone
The message reads:
Dear Tom DeLay,
Please commit suicide.
Sincerely,
Everyone
This is/was offered in several colors/styles through Café Press. Under the listing:

BAD BREATH?
BLOW IT & YOU ARE SO BUSTED BY POT GIZMO
For $60, you can buy a hand-held carbon monoxide meter that will show if your child is smoking weed — or even cigarettes.
The meter, called a Smokerlyzer, is the size of a large whistle and works on a seven-point scale.
When heavy smokers exhale into it, the number 7 lights up. After several days of cold turkey, the number drops to 1.

ANOTHER TERRI SCHIAVO!: A loving granddaughter pulls the tubes from her non-terminal 81-year-old grandma against her explicitly written wishes!
UPDATE!
Mae Magourik air lifted to Birmingham Hospital
Mae Magouirk, the 81-year-old Georgia widow over whose medical care a family tug-of-war reminiscent of the Terri Schiavo case has been raging, has been transported from the hospice in LaGrange, Ga., to the University of Alabama-Birmingham Medical Center, according to her nephew, where "she is receiving food, fluids, cardiac care and neurological help."
REVENGE OF THE NANNIES CONTINUES
D.C. lives in fear of 'Nannies'-gate
Kline, who obviously took note of the best-selling "Nanny Diaries," says she spent three days with Penguin Publishing's lawyers disguising the identities of some clients in her book, also called "White House Nannies," due out next month.
One high-profile White House staffer with a previous administration needed her own pacifier at the end of the day. One of Kline's nannies would find her employer and her child curled up in bed together - the baby sucking on a bottle of formula, Mom nursing a bottle of Jack Daniel's.
…
Another couple let their nanny live in their elegant pool house - which she turned into a brothel.
A Bush 41 administration member loved the nanny who'd taken care of her four kids for a year. But then, while removing the Christmas tree one day, the lady experienced chest pains. After calling paramedics, her employer discovered that her Mary Poppins was really Mrs. Doubtfire - a man in drag.
REALITY, WHAT A CONCEPT
Reality Television: An Actor's Career Boost or Bust?
[Cynthia] Silver, who is based in New York City, says she was a virtual laughing stock among industry insiders thanks to her appearance on "Bridezilla." Nonetheless, she used the experience as the basis for a one-woman show, "Bridezilla Strikes Back," and is hoping to turn this wretched episode in her life into something positive for her career.
…
Perhaps nobody, however, felt more humiliated than Cynthia Silver, who appeared on "Bridezilla" and insists she was led to believe she would be participating in a legitimate documentary called "Manhattan Brides," produced by September Films, about the trials and tribulations of planning a wedding.
…
Silver says she had no way of anticipating what would happen next: "The producers sold all of the footage to the Fox network, which then compiled an hourlong special called 'Bridezilla,' consisting of the moments when each bride lost it emotionally. And we all did, at one point or another," she admits. "We were all depicted very negatively, although compared to the others, I was the comic relief. But this is not what I had signed up for."
…
When I later met a casting director, she said to me, 'You look familiar.' I reeled off a number of other things she might have seen me in, and then she remembered and said, 'Why did you do that?' "
Fired Up `Apprentice' Contestant Arrested At Casino
[Chris] Shelton's bad boardroom behavior on NBC's reality show ``The Apprentice'' led Trump to call him ``a loser'' and ``a hothead.'' Seminole police - saying Shelton threw a temper tantrum early Sunday morning in the lobby of the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino - arrested the reality television star and charged him with disorderly conduct after he argued with staff about a cover charge at a hotel bar.
Speaking of "reality" ...
Don't miss FAT ACTRESS tonight. I'm finding most of the show's episodes are funny; only two clunkers to date.
