JUST TAKIN' A BREAK
Is it just me or is Madonna trying to morph into the late'n'fabulous Madeline Kahn? As though Madonna/Madge/Hester could ever hope to fill Kahn's shoes! DogMan will always remember her in Young Frankenstein ( "Oh my God. Woof." ), but my favorite Kahn performance was as Miss Trixie Delight in Paper Moon ( "Took me years to get bone structure." ) .
Until we meet again ...
8 P.I. Polly gives her main squeeze, “LHM,” his first tour of a morgue: We've got a full house...a couple of fire victims...some decomposed bones. Traffics. There are so many bodies, in fact, that we ran out of trays and have had to start stacking them on the floor. LHM is taking it all in. I try to remember what it was like seeing this for the first time and I suddenly become distinctly aware of the stale smell of cold death that is nearly identical in all ME coolers...the smell that I've become so accustomed to that it rarely even registers in my conscious mind anymore.
8 According to The Donald, Life is Never Easy, Even When You're Doing Well: The fact is The New York Times is going to hell. They published a major story about me on Sunday that they knew was wrong. On Sunday morning, right after the paper came out, my lawyer got a call from a lawyer at The New York Times asking if we wanted to correct the story. He didn't even wait until Monday, probably because he figured the lawsuits would be filed by then. The paper's editors knew the story was wrong, but they wanted to try and sell newspapers.

I'M NO STEPHEN KING
However, my two typewriting fingers are working on the next best seller, meticulously pecking out each and ev-er-ee syll-la-bull. Hence, the sporadic posts.
Bits of newsy flotsam ...
8 Muslims still revolting, but it's not their fault. French minister says polygamy to blame for riots: Polygamy is a taboo subject for most mainstream French politicians. Far-right groups, however, have seized on it to argue that immigrants abuse the French social security system by collecting state benefits for several wives.
8 The sky is NOT falling! Repeat: The sky is NOT falling! Fuss and Feathers: "THE INDICATION IS THAT we will see a return of the 1918 flu virus that is the most virulent form of flu," warns America's top health official. "In 1918, half a million people died. The projections are that this virus will kill one million Americans . . . " A quotation ripped from today's papers about an impending "bird flu" pandemic? No, the year was 1976 and the prediction of a deadly "swine flu" overshot the mark by 999,999 deaths (although dozens did die from the vaccine campaign). That's something to remember amid the current alarms.
8 Closer to home, and my pocketbook ... Corning Natural Gas in a whole helluva lotta trouble: Corning customers may experience winter bills that are approximately 55% higher than last year, compared to statewide average bill impacts of approximately 30-45%.
…
The guidelines in the Commission's policy statement were developed to shield customers from price volatility and, had they been followed by Corning, the cost of natural gas reflected in customers' bills this winter would likely be lower than current projections.
-- Staff of the Department of Public Service is investigating the management of Corning Natural Gas to identify steps that must be taken to better manage the company's fiscal operations and practices for securing natural gas supplies. The Commission ordered Corning to show cause why a temporary operator should not be appointed.
8 Gary Sinise is one righteous dude! BRIGHTER SIDE: MOST of the media focus on doom and gloom in Iraq. "Unfortunately, you just get one side of the story here and you don't see the positive things that are happening," said Gary Sinise, co-founder of Operation Iraqi Children, which helps Americans send school supplies to the embattled country's kids. "A lot of progress is being made, the school system is being rebuilt and revamped even in the face of these insurgents' attacks," the star of "CSI: NY" said on the Tony Danza show. "We've sent hundreds of thousands of school supplies over there."
8 And Rush is pretty damned great, too. At the suggestion of a caller, Rush is hosting Adopt A Soldier Program: Sponsors may adopt as many soldiers as they would like at a reduced price. Each adopted soldier will receive a complimentary, one year subscription to Rush 24/7 and the Limbaugh Letter. Check out the details.
8 Don't forget the year round Operation AC: We are at our fall fundraising drive to raise funding for the Christmas season. All mailing must be done prior to December 2, 2005 to be delivered to our troops by Christmas. We will be sending 1 pair of Combat Boots, A Santa Hat, a phone card and also our pre-decorated Christmas Trees. Cost is $100 per each service member. Please consider donating. Operation AC prides itself on sending troops items they can truly use during their deployment!
8 Dan Rather? Who's Dan Rather? AS IF NOTHING EVER HAPPENED: Did everyone miss what happened last week? Either you did or you're too tired to care.

MONDAY MORNIN' LAFFS
h/t Rik (a.k.a. Apocalypse Now)
Chuckle on ...
8Yes yes yes, we all agree that the violence is catastrophique. But, it's getting better (?). No, really.
2 Schools Ablaze As French Unrest Persists: If the downward trend continues, "things could return to normal very quickly," National Police Chief Michel Gaudin said, noting that French youths burn about 100 cars on an average Saturday night.
8He can act? STICK WITH ACTING: TIM Robbins has a long way to go if he wants to be a rock star, judging by the lame performance of his band Gob Roberts at the Attorney Street garage venue Sin-é the other night. "The set, which included hollow digs at the CIA and FBI, seemed to fall on disinterested ears ...
8 THIS will be a best seller fer sure. siiiiigh
